Nurburgring Trip 2007

Early November saw us attend the RMA's 2 day Nurburgring track day in our Honda Civic Type-R demonstrator. The trip was both for fun and to continue testing on the our new AST suspension set up for the FD2 Civic Type-R with Curtis Woodman from AST UK.

The car was simply sensational and despite driving these cars since early June it was still a revelation.

The Journey to and from Germany was superb with the Civic proving a very comfortable and economical way to travel across Europe. Clearly Honda has spent a serious amount of time on the cars aerodynamics as it was utterly stable at high speed and the AST suspension soaked up all of the road imperfections.

Once at the Nurburgring the weather was cold, wet and very slippery for both of the days but the Honda excelled. Most impressive of all was the cars complete composure despite the conditions and the tricky nature of the circuit. It is without doubt the most balanced saloon car chassis we have ever driven on track and would simply drive around all but the most exotic of race cars. The engines razor sharp throttle response meant that the driver could feed in exactly the right amount of power with the feel-some steering and chassis always letting you know where the limit was.

Although we tried a number of different settings on the AST suspension we actually found that our normal road setup suited the wet conditions very well. The AST suspension kit was also fitted to our demonstrator when it took part in Evo Magazine 2007 Car of the Year event. They were also very impressed placing the Civic Type-R high up in the standings having driven the car all week on both road and track.

The Nurburgring trip proved what a great combination the AST suspension and Civic Type-R make in driving conditions, surfaces and speeds.

Overall the trip was fantastic and we have already booked our next Type-R adventure.
