newsletter - august 2006 part 2

The last week has seen the ups and downs of motorsport... Firstly the bad news.
Time Attack Round 4 @ Silverstone
Going into the penultimate round of the Time Attack series our 8 point championship lead meant that we only need to score 3 points more than our nearest rivals Norris Designs and RC Developments to secure overall victory. We knew that their mighty Mitsubishi Evo’s would relish the chance to revisit Silverstone’s long straights so we had been working on closing the engine power gap. These Evos run in excess of a staggering 840bhp and 930bhp respectively so much development was needed.

Practice looked promising with Phil comfortably knocking a second off our last Silverstone outing in June despite the damp track and short shifting. He was looking forward to using full revs and really pushing for victory.

However disaster struck! Engine failure at the beginning of our flying lap saw our day ruined and our championship lead gone.

Analysis of the detailed data logging provided a fascinating insight to the cause of the problem and something we have already begun work on addressing. Engine problems are nothing new in motor sport especially when pushing the limits for every performance advantage. The new engine should be ready next week with testing starting soon.

Now with just 2 points separating the top 3 teams there is everything to play for going into the final round at the famous Donnington Park Grand Prix circuit. It will be an extremely exciting finish with possibly the best Tuner cars in Europe battling it out right down to the wire. The day (30th September) should be packed with Japfest2 taking place at the same time so there will be plenty to see throughout the day.

Whatever happens it’s a credit to the Championship and the quality of teams taking part that the standards have been so high. Who will win? Mitsubishi or Subaru? I guess there are only 4 short weeks until we find out...

Evo Magazine review the new Litchfield Impreza Type-25
After over a year in development industry heavy weights Evo Magazine finally took the new Type-25 away for a few days testing to see if it was everything we hoped it would be. After driving the Type-25 on local roads and track the verdict could not be better. “The best Impreza ever” says the review and despite being on road suspension settings and only doing a quick couple of laps it still went faster than the best £100,000 supercars from Germany and Italy. You can read all about it in the latest October issue of the Evo Magazines which should be in shops now.

Tuner GP 2006 - Litchfield and Powerstation do the double again!

Tuner GP sees the best performance companies in the UK come together to compete for the fastest laps during a day long shootout. Last years event took place at Donnington and we were able to have a class winning entrant and the fastest Japanese car. This year the venue had moved to the UK’s quickest circuit, Snetterton.

Litchfield Imports took along our exciting road car range with the new 415bhp Subaru Impreza Type-25 and the track focused Impreza Spec C GP Edition competing in the Saloon cars category. Also taking part was the companies’ 330bhp Subaru Forester STI demonstrator in the MPV/4x4 class.

Despite stiff opposition from high powered BMWs, Audi RS4 and Mitsubishi Evos the day could not have gone any better. The new GP Edition and Type-25 took 1st and 2nd in the Saloon car category posting lap times in the 1:18s. The Forester STI also dominated the 4x4/MPV class all day.

Results:

Star of the day had to be the Forester STI, not only did it have more attention than all the Porsches put together but it also drew the biggest grins both from the spectators and drivers alike. Its’ 330bhp Performance pack and Snettertons fast bends should have been too much but it’s standard suspension and Bridgestone road tyres performed faultlessly. It also proved the perfect training tool for the drivers as they were able to explore the limits comfortably within the Forester’s benign handling.

It saw more track time than ANY other vehicle competing running perfectly for a staggering 61 laps as it marched to a overwhelming class victory. It really is a car capable of everything, lugging people, tools to and from the circuit in comfort as well.

The Type-25 was great fun all day with the highest top speed down the long back straight but the GP Edition was simply incredible through the bends before whipping through to its’ 8,000rpm redline down the straights.

Litchfield Spec C GP Edition
September 1st sees the launch of our latest Impreza derivative a car that celebrates our continuing success on track.

Focused squarely at the track enthusiast with everything that is needed to make it a winner straight out of the box. This exciting new model features the same chassis as our proven race car and uses the 3-way racing AST dampers that have successfully competed at Tuner GP, Time Attack and the Nurburgring 24hr race. It is designed to allow it’s owner to drive to and from a growing number of events both fun and competitive. But uniquely this is still a practical saloon capable of coping with the rigors of family life and day to day motoring.

Based on Subaru’s exceptional lightweight Spec C, a car which already laps the Nurburgring as quickly as a GT3 Porsche, but the GP Edition takes it to a whole new level.

What makes the GP Edition Special?

On top of this owners have our full support service designed to get the most out of themselves and the car. Prices for this new model is £34,995 On The Road including Warranty, UK type approval, UK ECU Remap, 157mph Speed limit, Correct Diff settings, RAC Trackstar, Speed camera detection and CAT 1 Alarm system.
